(608) 448-6432 ext. 109

Bill leads Chestnut Commercialization efforts at the Savanna Institute that are designed to increase the scale and viability of chestnuts as a tree crop in the eastern US. Bill and a diverse group of collaborators have written an Impact Investment Plan for chestnuts that summarizes the current state of the industry as well as barriers to growth and the funding required to overcome those barriers. Bill served in the Army after high school and has worked as a biologist, farmer, bike mechanic and Extension Agent. Bill leverages these past experiences along with his ability to see the big picture and think creatively to find novel solutions to the wicked problems facing agriculture today. Bill finds inspiration in nature and is an avid outdoorsman that enjoys nature photography, fishing, hunting, birdwatching, and gardening.
