Growing a Community of Practice in Wisconsin
We’ve heard from farmers and landholders who want to add windbreaks, silvopasture, and other agroforestry systems to their land. People considering agroforestry adoption want access to a large network of farmer practitioners who have experience in everything from planning and establishment to full production and farm system transition. This network will help farmers make data-supported, ground-truthed, and proven decisions for their land and farm businesses.
To respond to this need, the Savanna Institute has partnered with Wisconsin NRCS to launch an Agroforestry Demonstration Farm Network in 2024. The Demo Farm Network will create a support system focused on peer-to-peer agroforestry education, demonstration, and research in the state. Wisconsin producers and landholders who join the Demo Farm Network will have the important role of helping to demonstrate agroforestry in action to fellow farmers, landholders, researchers, ag and conservation professionals, and the general public.
Want to join the Network?
The Wisconsin Agroforestry Demonstration Farm Network is an exciting opportunity for like-minded agroforestry growers to network with each other and build a supportive community of practice. When you join the Network, you will have access to:
- Peer-to-peer and peer-to-expert learning sessions, educational events, farm tours and field days
- Any variety of on-farm research
- Story information sharing with others

Introducing the Wisconsin Agroforestry Demonstration Farm Network
I’m Eleanor and I have a small farm in Baraboo, Wisconsin. On our farm, we try to fit tree planting and care into our busy workflow that also includes an annual vegetable CSA and a small variety of livestock.
Wisconsin NRCS and the Savanna Institute partner to create agroforestry demonstration sites across the state
The Savanna Institute and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced today plans to develop a statewide agroforestry demonstration farm network in Wisconsin where farmers can see examples of how to integrate trees successfully on farms for conservation and for profit.
