Take a tour with Agroforestry Educator\, MJ Oviatt\, to explore the diversity of autumnal leaf color across a variety of tree species. Learn about the ecological and aesthetic benefits of adding trees to Midwestern farm landscapes. Partake in leaf-themed arts and crafts with leaf stenciling and leaf confetti-making! Local apple cider and cookies will be provided. \nFields Restored is a 166-acre farm near Oregon\, IL owned and operated by siblings Scott and Sandy Williams and their farm partners the Rogers Family. In 2015\, the Williams worked with the Savanna Institute to transform 20 acres of cropland into a diverse and productive perennial cropping system. After seeing substantial improvements by having trees on this field\, the Williams decided to partner with Savanna Institute to expand their perennial acreage through planting trees along a creek (riparian buffer)\, and adding trees into their pasture (silvopasture). With four major agroforestry practices on the farm–windbreaks\, alley cropping\, riparian buffers\, and silvopasture–Fields Restored serves to demonstrate ways agroforestry can be utilized on other Northern Illinois farms. Reaching back into a rich\, centuries-long history\, the authors make clear that understanding the story behind a bottle of mezcal\, more than any other drink\, will reveal what lies ahead for the tradition\, including its ability to adapt in the face of the climate crisis. Essential reading for mezcal connoisseurs and amateurs interested in unlocking the past of a delightful distillate\, Agave Spirits tells the tale of the most flavorful and memorable spirits humankind has ever sipped and savored. \nThe reading will be followed by a talkback with Savanna Institute Director Keefe Keeley. Gary and Keefe will be in dialogue about the future of agroforestry production for fermented foods and beverages in a climate changed world that Gary has darkly dubbed Planet Desert. They will discuss what they embrace in the term slooow agriculture\, a means of food production that uses the patient capital of perennial plants\, microbially rich soil development\, patient farmers and patient capital to promote land health\, human health and community well-being\, as well as greater resilience. Gary will feature stories from agave-prickly pear cactus-mesquite polycultures as tangible examples of the slow agriculture. \nKeefe and Gary have been called the Stan and Ollie of the place-based agroforestry movement\, so this is a warning: if you are allergic to humor\, take a lot of benadryl extracted from hazel nuts and kheese kurds before the event. \n \n REGISTER URL:https://www.savannainstitute.org/event/agave-spirits-with-gary-paul-nabhan/ LOCATION:Witwen Park & CampGround (Tabernackle)\, S9855 County Road\, East Sauk City\, WI\, 53583\, United States CATEGORIES:In-Person,Partner Event ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Blog-Header-1200x630-5.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230923T130000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230923T170000 DTSTAMP:20240328T181354 CREATED:20230815T165441Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230913T195755Z UID:19575-1695474000-1695488400@www.savannainstitute.org SUMMARY:2023 Spring Green Open House DESCRIPTION:Saturn Farm\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nSPRING GREEN CAMPUS \n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, September 23\, 2023 from 1pm-5pm \nSCHEDULE \n\n\n\nLocal FoodsEnjoy tastings from Driftless producers \nCider PressPress your own fresh apple cider \nLive MusicWith bluegrass-folk fusion band The Iowans \nFarm ToursSee our nursery and hazelnut research trials with Savanna Institute’s farm team \nLOCATIONShuttle Pick-up River Valley High School660 Varsity Blvd\, Spring Green\, WI 53588 \n\nShuttle use highly encouraged \nView carpooling options from Madison\, WI \nNorth Farm (1pm-5pm)E6856 State Rd 60\, Spring Green\, WI 53588 URL:https://www.savannainstitute.org/event/save-the-date-2023-spring-green-open-house/ LOCATION:Spring Green Campus\, Spring Green\, WI CATEGORIES:In-Person ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/SGC-Open-House-Fall-2023.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230916T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230916T140000 DTSTAMP:20240328T181354 CREATED:20230727T103241Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230727T223227Z UID:19426-1694854800-1694872800@www.savannainstitute.org SUMMARY:Women Caring for the Land Learning Circle – Wonderland Community Project DESCRIPTION:Saturn Farm\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This Learning Circle will focus on topics such as permaculture design\, native foraging and community building.\nRegistration: $5. Please register here. \n \n \n REGISTER URL:https://www.savannainstitute.org/event/women-caring-for-the-land-learning-circle-wonderland-community-project/ LOCATION:Wonderland Community Project\, Shadow Lane and Thompson Road\, Wonder Lake\, IL\, 60097\, United States CATEGORIES:Field Day,In-Person ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Learning-Circle-Save-the-Date-Social-media.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230912T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230912T110000 DTSTAMP:20240328T181355 CREATED:20230702T162741Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230703T053017Z UID:19227-1694509200-1694516400@www.savannainstitute.org SUMMARY:September Volunteer Stream Monitoring DESCRIPTION:Saturn Farm\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nSPRING GREEN CAMPUS \n\n\n\n\nJoin us Monthly on Every Second Tuesday\, 9AM\nTuesday\, September 12\, 2023 at 9am \nSouth Farm6172 County Road ZSpring Green\, WI 53588 \nSubject to weather conditions.\nWe’ll be monitoring two stream sites. Thanks to Edwards Mother Earth Foundation for their support and sponsorship of this event. USDA is an equal opportunity provider\, employer\, and lender. \n \n \n REGISTER URL:https://www.savannainstitute.org/event/silvopasture-for-ag-professionals-field-day/ LOCATION:Seven Seeds Farm\, Spring Green\, WI\, 5079 County Road Z\, Spring Green\, WI\, 53588\, United States CATEGORIES:Field Day,In-Person ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Flyer_Aug17FieldDay_WIRCPP.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230816T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230816T140000 DTSTAMP:20240328T181355 CREATED:20230727T102341Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230727T222411Z UID:19423-1692176400-1692194400@www.savannainstitute.org SUMMARY:Women Caring for the Land Learning Circle at Garlic eScape Farm DESCRIPTION:Saturn Farm\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This Learning Circle will focus on topics such as conservation plans\, land access\, garlic and herb love.\nFee: $5 per person. Please register here. \n \n REGISTER URL:https://www.savannainstitute.org/event/women-caring-for-the-land-learning-circle-at-garlic-escape-farm/ LOCATION:Garlic eScape Farm\, 14115 Kishwaukee Valley Road\, Woodstock\, 60098 CATEGORIES:Field Day,In-Person ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.savannainstitute.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/07/Learning-Circle-Save-the-Date-Social-media.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230808T090000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230808T110000 DTSTAMP:20240328T181355 CREATED:20230702T163941Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230703T052128Z UID:19222-1691485200-1691492400@www.savannainstitute.org SUMMARY:August Volunteer Stream Monitoring DESCRIPTION:Saturn Farm\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nSPRING GREEN CAMPUS \n\n\n\n\nJoin us Monthly on Every Second Tuesday\, 9AM\nTuesday\, August 8\, 2023 at 9am \nSouth Farm6172 County Road ZSpring Green\, WI 53588 \nSubject to weather conditions.\nWe’ll be monitoring two stream sites.
