BREAKOUT SESSION A

Grassland 2.0: A Perennial Vision for Midwestern Agriculture

The Grassland 2.0 project, based at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and managed by collaborators including the Savanna Institute, seeks to reshape Midwestern agriculture as a perennial, livestock-integrated, grazing-based system in the image of native prairies and savannas (Grassland 1.0). We envision a regenerative food and farming system that delivers stable profits for farmers, community vitality and protection of our ecosystem. To get there, we need a movement – and we want to hear from farmers, researchers, and citizens who will be affected. We are working to develop financial tools, expand grass-fed markets, cultivate policy changes, and empower producers and consumers to make that vision a reality. This Organized Session will feature a short presentation by Grassland 2.0 panelists, followed by a listening session and facilitated conversation.

Jacob Grace, Grassland 2.0, UW-Madison CIAS; Savanna Institute
Laura Paine, Grassland 2.0; GrassWorks, Inc.
