Position Opening - Investment Analyst

The Savanna Institute invites applications for a part-time Investment Analyst. We seek applicants who share our passion for regenerative and resilient agriculture, with a preference for applicants who bring fluency and background in finance along with insights into the impact investing ecosystem. The Investment Analyst will lead an array of activities related to scaling tree crop industries in the Midwest US. Successful applicants will be able to leverage expertise in sustainability to innovate strategies that can further finance agricultural sustainability.

 

The Savanna Institute’s culture is highly collaborative and transparent. The Investment Analyst will work closely with other Institute staff including the co-Executive Director and Tree Crop Analyst in all aspects of his/her work. This is a new position that will report to the co-Executive Directors.

Hours: Part-time; flexible hours

Location: Work-from-home, flexible Midwest location. Occasional reimbursed travel.

Rate of Pay: Commensurate with experience.

Job Description

  • Conduct market & supply chain research
  • Identify commercialization bottlenecks
  • Analyze impact investment strategies
  • Identify appropriate business structures and investment vehicles
  • Synthesize stakeholder knowledge
  • Prepare reports & deliver presentations

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships with researchers and supply chain stakeholders
  • Organize tree crop advisory committees
  • Work with Tree Crop Analyst to match investment strategies with germplasm potential
  • Additional duties as deemed necessary

 

Organization Description

The Savanna Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Madison, Wisconsin and Urbana, Illinois. We work in collaboration with farmers, scientists, and other stakeholders to develop perennial food and fodder crops within multifunctional systems grounded in ecology and inspired by the savanna biome. Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in agricultural supply chains
  • Bachelor’s degree (masters preferred) in a business, management, or financial field, or a degree in any field plus extensive experience in those areas
  • Experience in new venture creation or considerable knowledge of agricultural economics and business structures
  • Financial acumen and experience tracking and reporting on budgets and strategy
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proven ability to build networks and maintain effective relationships with partners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to commit to moving the mission of the Savanna Institute forward
